Do Mattress Encasements Really Work?
Walk into any store and you'll see mattress encasements marketed as bed bug protection. "Trap and kill bed bugs!" the packaging promises. But what do these products actually do, and are they a real solution?
What Encasements Actually Do
A quality encasement creates a sealed barrier around your mattress. Any bed bugs trapped inside can't get out to feed and will eventually die. Bugs outside can't get in to hide in the mattress seams. That's genuinely useful - for protection.
The Big Limitation
Here's what the packaging doesn't emphasize: encasements don't eliminate an infestation. Bed bugs don't just live in your mattress. They hide in box springs, bed frames, nightstands, baseboards, electrical outlets, and anywhere else near where you sleep.
Part of the Solution, Not THE Solution
Encasements are great for prevention and as a complement to treatment. But if you already have bed bugs, wrapping your mattress alone won't solve the problem. You need to eliminate the bugs everywhere they're hiding.
